Vedic Temple Australia

Expressing Vedic Religious Life in Australia

Our heritage temple tradition emanates from Vaidic Dharma Santhsan in Karnataka, India, which is dedicated to preserving for future generations the ancient Vedic scriptural knowledge, worship and rituals which predate 1,500 BC.

Australia's First Vedic Temple

The Vedic religious and spiritual tradition is expressed in Sanskrit, the oldest attested human language from which the world’s major modern language groups originated.

Knowledge from the Vedic scriptures (Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda) is universal in application, travelling cross culturally, and infusing life through all the Indian lineages which have introduced contemporary global practices of yoga and meditation.

Australia is fortunate to host the first Vedic Dharma Sansthan temple outside the Indian sub-continent.

The Vedic Religion

The Vedic religion is the substratum origin of religions founded in India such as Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

Vedic scriptures contain spiritual, worship and ritual knowledge in the form of Samhitas (mantras and benedictions), Aranyakas (rituals, ceremonies and symbolic offerings), Brahmanas (commentaries on rituals), Upanishads (commentaries on philosophy and meditation) and Upasanas (worship).

The Vedas describe a complete Vedic lifestyle and teach practices which are profoundly beneficial for body, mind, spirit, community and nature.

Australian Vedic Temple Worship

Key elements include individual and collective Pujas (acts of worship) and Homas (votive rituals) to enliven cosmic energies on particular occasions.  Such worship rituals are performed to the accompaniment of Sanskrit Mantras (ancient words of power activating universal energies).

Individual and community worship life is sustained by a range of activities to sustain spiritual knowledge and spiritual development practices.

Training Australian
Pujaris and Pandits

Water is pure when it emanates from a pure source and is dispensed from a pure vessel.  Hence those who perform rituals acts of worship (Pujaris) need to maintain physical and mental hygiene and be grounded in daily spiritual practices.  Similarly, those scholars (Pandits) who impart spiritual knowledge and ceremonial worship techniques need to be fit for purpose and well trained.

With the help of scholars from Vaidic Dharma Sansthan, Vedic Temple Australia is developing a training curriculum to create local pujaris and pandits, both as lay householders (spiritual aspirants living and working in the community) and in the ministry (individuals who dedicate their inner and outer lives to the work of the Temple).
